In our travels from coast to coast over the past several years, we keep going to back to some of the same resorts and restaurants and we see the shows and sights and sounds of what each area offers.
Most all of the time after you see something a few times, you get bored with it and move on to see something else. We have been going to San Francisco for over 40 years and Steve Silver’s Beach Blanket Babylon, now in its 40th year and celebrating over 15,000 performances, is a world renowned record-breaking success and the longest running musical revue in theatre history! How many live shows can keep going for 40 years in the same town?
It is the same premise from the very first time that we saw it, however it is always updated to keep up with the times and it is always a great show.
No! Wait, it is NOT a great show! It is a fabulously wonderful show. Calling it a great show would be putting it down!
It never ceases to amaze us how the audience’s reactions are time and time again. Everyone loves the show and why not? The costumes, the songs, the scenery and the hats… and oh what hats they have!
They are all truly unbelievable and the finale is always way over the top for a standing ovation. Every time we have seen the show and we have been seeing it for 40 years, the audience always wants MORE! The entire cast works as a team and you can certainly tell that they love what they are doing. A highly successful show such as this one takes hours and hours of rehearsals.
We still do not know how the performers can quick change their costumes so quickly. And who thinks up all of the very creative skits that are so new and current in today’s world? It truly is a masterpiece and of course that is exactly why it has been so successful year after year after year and audiences keep coming back for more.
If you have never been to see their performance, be SURE and put it on your list of things to do when visiting San Francisco. We love the venue where it is located as it is so accommodating for the type of show that they put on. The production staff, the entertainers, the musicians, the set designers, the costumer designers and everyone involved with Beach Blanket Babylon are to be commended for such a great and fabulous job that they have done over the past 40 years and continue doing it year after year. We know that they will be around another 40 years.
